Noord Mayor Freezes Household Rates for 2026-27 Financial Year

The Noord city council adopted the mayor's proposed rates freeze on 15 June 2026, keeping the average residential property rate at 1,850 euros for the coming fiscal year. The decision covers all 47,200 rated households within the municipal boundary and applies to both owner-occupiers and tenants through their landlords' accounts.

Local rates have risen by an average of 4.8 percent each year since 2022, according to the council's published financial statements. The freeze follows sustained pressure on household budgets from higher energy and food costs recorded in the national statistics agency's June consumer price index release.

For a typical Noord household in the 180-square-metre category, the unchanged rate means the full-year bill due in October will remain 1,850 euros instead of the 1,940 euros previously projected. Renters in council-supported housing will see the adjustment reflected in their service charges from the same date.

Budget Allocation Details

The 2026-27 budget paper shows the council will offset the 4.2 million euro revenue shortfall by drawing 2.8 million euros from its infrastructure reserve and deferring 1.4 million euros in planned road resurfacing works on the eastern ring road. No changes were made to waste collection or library operating budgets.

Policy analysts at the regional economics institute have calculated that the freeze will reduce the average Noord household's total annual local government outlay by 90 euros when combined with the existing water-rate rebate. The calculation uses the council's own property valuation roll from March 2026.

Council officers will issue revised rate notices by 20 July 2026. Residents who have already paid in advance will receive a credit on their next quarterly instalment, while direct-debit arrangements will be adjusted automatically from August.
