Jordaan Council Freezes Municipal Service Fees Through 2027 to Stabilise Household Outlays

The Jordaan City Council voted on 7 July 2026 to freeze municipal service fees at their current levels through the 2027 fiscal year. The decision applies to water charges, waste collection and resident parking permits issued by the local authority. Every household that receives these bills from the council will see no increase in the base rates charged for those services.

Why the freeze was adopted now

The council reviewed its revenue requirements during preparation of the 2026-2027 budget. Officials determined that existing fee levels, combined with other revenue sources, would cover projected operating costs without adjustment. The policy therefore maintains the same schedule of charges that applied in the previous two budget cycles.

Residents who pay for weekly waste collection will continue to receive the same quarterly invoice amount. Households with annual parking permits for street spaces will renew at the unchanged rate listed in the current fee schedule. Water bills calculated on metered usage will apply the same per-cubic-metre charge that has been in force since the start of 2025.

Budget figures and implementation timeline

The 2026 Jordaan budget paper records that the average household paid 468 euros in combined municipal service fees last year. Under the freeze those same households are projected to pay the identical total amount in the coming fiscal year. The new rates take effect for bills issued on or after 1 October 2026.

Council staff will update the online billing portal and printed notices by the end of August. Residents who have set up direct debit will see the unchanged amounts deducted on their usual schedule. The next formal review of these fees is scheduled for the 2028 budget process.
