De Pijp Residents Face €50 Annual Parking Permit Increase This September

The Amsterdam city council approved revisions to the residential parking permit fee structure on 8 July 2026. The changes raise the annual cost for a standard permit from €150 to €200 in all central districts, including De Pijp. Households that register more than one vehicle face an additional €75 surcharge per extra permit.
Why the update arrives now
The revisions form part of the 2026 Municipal Budget adopted last month. City officials cite rising maintenance expenses for on-street infrastructure and alignment with national targets to limit vehicle kilometres travelled inside the ring road. The budget paper allocates the projected extra revenue to road repairs and expanded bike storage facilities in the same neighbourhoods.
De Pijp residents will encounter the new rates when they renew permits after 1 September. Families who use a car to reach workplaces in the port area or Schiphol will pay roughly €400 more per year for two vehicles. Local shops that rely on delivery vans registered at residential addresses will also see higher operating costs passed through supplier invoices.
Comparison with other Dutch cities
Under the revised schedule Amsterdam permit fees sit 25 percent above those charged in Rotterdam and 15 percent above Utrecht levels for equivalent central zones. Eindhoven maintains a flat €140 rate. The Productivity Commission report on municipal parking policies, released in June, records these differentials and notes that higher fees correlate with lower car ownership rates in the three largest cities.
Implementation begins with new permit applications processed from September onward. Residents who already hold valid permits through August will receive renewal notices showing the updated amount. City hall has scheduled two information sessions at the De Pijp district office on 22 and 29 July to explain the payment schedule and exemption criteria for electric vehicles.
